Purchasing and supply focal point is on sourcing, pricing, and buying the right materials, at the right price and at the right time in order to provide a service or product. Effective purchasing can assist an organization to reduce costs, maintain quality, and manage the levels of risk to its supply chain. Procurement assists with vendor selection for products and services, supplier competition and proposals from vendors, negotiation pricing, reviewing vendor terms and conditions, and developing contract relationships with vendors. That is a process of identifying, selecting & developing suppliers. This can be done at tactical & operational or strategic levels. 'Sourcing' or 'Selection of source/s' is a major challenge for any Purchasing manager. The Source of supply of required materials is basically the selection of a suitable supplier.
